Most Pakistanis leave significant money on the table at every job offer. Studies show that professionals who negotiate their first salary earn PKR 15,000 – 50,000 more per month — which compounds to PKR 1.8M – 6M over 10 years. Here is exactly how to do it.
The Fundamental Rule
Every Pakistani company builds 20-30% negotiation room into their initial offer. If you accept immediately, you are giving them a gift. Negotiating is expected and respected — it shows you know your value.
Step 1: Research Before You Sit
Before any salary conversation, know your number. Check Roziwala listings for your role, experience level and city. Check LinkedIn salary insights. Ask peers in your network. Your target should be the 75th percentile — top of mid-range, bottom of senior range.
Step 2: Never Give a Number First
When asked 'What is your expected salary?' — deflect once:
'I am more interested in ensuring this is the right fit. Could you share the budgeted range for this role?'
If they push back, give a range: 'Based on my research, I am targeting PKR 150,000 to 180,000. Does that align with your budget?'
Step 3: When You Receive the Offer
Never accept on the spot. Always say: 'Thank you so much! I am very excited about this opportunity. Could I have 24-48 hours to review the offer?'
Then counter with 15-20% above their number:
'I am very interested in joining. Based on my experience in [specific skill] and the market research I have done, I was hoping we could get to PKR X. Is there flexibility there?'
Step 4: Negotiate the Full Package
If they cannot move on base salary, negotiate:
What Pakistanis Do Wrong
1. Revealing current salary — never do this. It anchors all negotiation downward.
2. Accepting verbally before seeing written offer
3. Negotiating over WhatsApp — do it in person or on a call
4. Being apologetic — confidence signals competence
5. Stopping after one counter — you can go 2-3 rounds
